Cocktail Kinetics is our cheeky take on Dance Kinetics, because sometimes Friday night calls for something a little less serious. Music, movement, floor work, laughs, and choreography that somehow involves having a drink in your hand.
We’ll kick things off with dance, cardio, calisthenics and plenty of fun before the second section: floor work with a twist. Because alcohol is involved, this class is 21 and over. Alcohol is not required. Non-alcoholic drinks are absolutely welcome. If you do bring alcohol, drink responsibly and have a safe way home afterwards.
BYO drink
Friday nights
1 hour
21 and over
Dance
The same high-energy hour, just with Friday night written all over it.
Sweat
Cardio, calisthenics and movement. You will still work. You will still grin.
Sip
The sip is a movement, not a drinks break. The choreography decides when.
Repeat
Combination. Sip. Next combination. Until the week feels well and truly finished.
Meet your instructor
Adam Shaw
Same instructor. Slightly less serious Friday. You’ll still be moving with Adam Shaw: cardio, calisthenics, flexibility and aerobics mixed into one session. Only this time the floor-work combinations have a sip built in. Work to your own level, follow along, and leave grinning. You’re welcome to come solo, though this one is even better with a friend, or a whole group. It’s Friday. You’ve survived the week. Dance accordingly.
Things to bring
Exercise / dance-appropriate clothing
Water bottle
Rubber / cushioned mat (if required) for floor work
BYO beverage: cocktail, beer, wine, mocktail, soft drink, juice or water. If it’s alcohol: one bottle or can, maximum 2 NZ standard drinks, no spirits or shots. A fridge is provided to keep your drink cool through the first half, until floor work. No glass cups. Cans, bottles or plastic only. We don’t sell drinks. The only beverage you’ll get from us is water, and we have absolutely no problem with that
A towel, in case you spill a little. That’s absolutely fine
Class structure
Section 1: Warm Up, Cardio & Aerobics
We hit the ground running with an extended warm up incorporating cardio and aerobics: the high-energy stretch of the hour that gets you sweating and smiling to music from all decades. Your drink waits in the fridge. This part is still a workout.
Approx 30 mins
Section 2: Floor work with a little twist
This is the tongue-in-cheek bit. Drinks come out of the fridge and your BYO becomes part of the choreography. Floor work, calisthenics and combinations, and at regular intervals the sip is a movement, not a pause. Complete the combination. Take the sip. Move into the next combination. Repeat. Because alcohol is involved, the whole class is 21 and over. Non-alcoholic drinks are still very welcome.
Approx 20 mins
Section 3: Warm Down & Stretching
We finish with a warm down and stretch so you leave looser than you arrived. Occasionally we’ll use the barres for a bit of extra support.
Approx 10 mins
The gimmick
The sip is one of the moves
It’s not a drinking competition, and you certainly don’t need alcohol to join in. It’s a ridiculous, fun way to finish the working week, and the class controls when a sip happens, not how much anyone consumes.
1
Complete the combination
Work the floor-work set. Your drink stays with you. It’s your dance partner for this section.
2
Take the sip
When the choreography calls for it. One sip means one sip. Then you’re back in.
3
Next combination
Move on. Repeat until the floor-work section is done. No free-range sipping.
The rules, with a wink
The Cocktail Kinetics Code
The joke is the sip. The rules are genuine. By booking, you agree to the Code, especially the one we will not bury in the fine print.
BYO your beverage.
Alcoholic or non-alcoholic: your choice. No glass cups: cans, bottles or plastic only. We don’t sell drinks. The only beverage you’ll get from us is water, and we have absolutely no problem with that.
Your drink is your dance partner.
It stays in the fridge for the first half, then stays with you throughout the floor-work section. No drink, no sip. Bring a towel in case you spill a little. That’s absolutely fine.
The choreography decides when you sip.
Sips are built into the combinations. No free-range sipping.
One sip means one sip.
No chugging, double-sipping or “I thought that was two counts.” We see you.
No shots. No spirits.
We’re here to dance, not speed-run Saturday morning regrets.
Keep it responsible.
Alcohol is limited to a maximum of 2 NZ standard drinks for the entire class, in one bottle or can.
No topping up.
Bring what you intend to consume. No refills or extra alcohol during the session.
Know your limits.
If alcohol is affecting your coordination, balance or judgement, the sips stop, and the dancing can stop too.
21 and over.
Because alcohol is involved, the whole class is restricted to ages 21 and over. Non-alcoholic drinks are still welcome.
Have a bloody good time.
It’s Friday. You’ve survived the week. Dance accordingly.
